Santiago de Chile, Dec 7 .-Chilean troubadours paid tribute to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, at a cultural gala in which they reviewed emblematic melodies of the committed song.

The ambassador of Nicaragua to Chile, María Luisa Robleto, inserted a meaningful message to remember the trajectory of Fidel Castro, ‘his example and legacy for the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.’

At the initiative of the singer-songwriters themselves and with the assistance of the diplomatic mission of Cuba in this South American nation, the evening lasted almost three hours, showing at the same time different passages of the life of the former president of Cuba.

A verse from the Nobel Prize for Literature and distinguished Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, dedicated to Fidel Castro and the then-nascent Cuban Revolution, opened the gala followed by Patricia Carmona at the Camilo Henríquez theater.

Cabalgata con Fidel, by Raúl Torres, was the first performance by Patricia Carmona, who, like other musicians, expressed her emotions by underlining the work ‘of the eternal Commander in Chief,’ one year after his death.

Along with works of Chilean authorship, infallible as those of Víctor Jara, songs by Silvio Rodríguez, Vicente and Santiago Feliú, and the classics of Carlos Puebla, among others, were also evoked.

The ambassadors of Vietnam to Chile, Ngo Duc Thang, and of Venezuela, Arévalo Méndez, along with Cuban diplomats and from other countries attended the gala.

At the end of November, graduates of the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) of Cuba along with solidarity groups with the Caribbean island recalled the figure of Fidel Castro.

A floral offering was deposited in the reception of the Embassy of Cuba next to a photo of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution. (Prensa Latina)
