Cuban Charcoal Reports Demand in European Market
Ciego de Ávila, Cuba, Aug 1st.- The export of charcoal to European countries is currently one of the main contributions to the country’s economy by agricultural and service companies of this central Cuban province.
During the first half of 2019, Ciego de Avila earned more than US$3 million, with the sale of about 11,400 tons of charcoal to Italy, Greece, Portugal and Spain, among other European nations.
The Ceballos Agro-Industrial Company, main exporting entity in Ciego de Avila, maintains its primacy in that activity in the country, foreign trade director Domingo Escalante said.
More than 90 percent of exportable charcoal is produced from marabu firewood, whose final product stands out for having a higher heat level, a blue flame, without smoke and ash.
The production of charcoal is an alternative the country has to search for an energy source without affecting the environment, in addition to using marabu, an undesirable plant that is abundant in the fields of Cuba. (Prensa Latina)
