[:es]Cuba Celebrates National Science Day[:]

More than 200 entities of the sector and 52 universities have channelled efforts to make those plans more relevant and connect more quickly to the economy and society, the CTI director at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), Armando Rodriguez, told Prensa Latina.

About 30 National Science, Technology and Innovation Programs, associated to the country’s priorities, were joined during 2017 by the Cuban and Latin American Cultural Identity and the National Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Program, he said.

The former expects to propose actions and research to strengthen cultural identity, not only in Cuba, but also in the region, and the latter contributes to the fulfillment of the National Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030, he said.

According to Rodriguez, the satisfaction we have is that we cannot only talk about numbers, but to take advantage in 2018 of a financing that we have of science, which has significantly increased, he said.

With regard to global warming, the country materializes Tarea-Vida (Task-Life), a Cuban State’s Plan, presented by UNESCO in October by CITMA Minister, Elba Rosa Perez, to face the consequences of that natural phenomenon.

The Cuban Science Day was set up on January 15, 1990, on occasion of the 30th anniversary that the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, assured that ‘The future of our country should necessarily be a future of men of Science, a future of thinking men.’ (Prensa Latina)
