Belgium prepares container with medical supplies for Cuba

Brussels, Jun 8.- With support from Belgian citizens, Cuban residents are preparing a container with medical supplies for the Caribbean island, which contains syringes and needles for vaccination against Covid-19, Reynaldo Romero, coordinator of the initiative.

In statements to Prensa Latina, he said that the solidarity project involves Cubans living in Belgium and the Netherlands, in this case, they are members of the Cuba en mi Alma (Cuba in My Soul) association, and Belgian organizations and individuals, whom he thanked for their commitment and help to Cuba, which is facing the double impact of the United States blockade and the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Romero, the intention is to send the container in early July, with donations from hospitals and citizens, and syringes and needles purchased with the money raised. We are very happy, the work has been hard, but it is encouraging to see how we are making progress, for example the recent donation of a ton of equipment and resources for use in the oncology sector in Cuba, he stressed.

Regarding the vaccination against Covid-19, he pointed out the goal of acquiring approximately 100,000 syringes and needles soon, using the money that has been collected, a campaign in which solidarity associations such as Cubanismo.be and the Friends of Cuba in Belgium participated.

The Cuban Government plans to immunize the entire population with its own vaccines before the end of the year, a goal which has generated a spontaneous mobilization in several continents to provide syringes and needles, due to Cuba’s limitations as a result of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade, which was intensified in the midst of the pandemic.  (Prensa Latina)
