Boleros de Oro Provincial Festival Winds Up in CamagüeyCamagüey, June 18 – Because of their musical talent and their performances’ quality, singers Margarita Morales and Junior Furnier were awarded the Grand Prix of the 10th Boleros de Oro Provincial Festival, which came to a close on Sunday in the city of Camagüey.

Moreover, the jury granted four special mentions to four young contestants for their excellent voices and endeavours in rescuing a musical genre that is little-known by the youngest generations of Cubans.

In addition, the 5th Symposium on Bolero and Ballads, organized by the Cuban Writers and Artists Association also wound up yesterday with an awarding ceremony in which the best five researches on this matter were announced and awarded.

The researches on a musical genre that contributes in a great deal to the identity of the Cuban nation, an insight into the life and work of maestro Jorge Luis Betancourt, founder and conductor of Camagüey’s Symphonic Orchestra, and a paper work on the presence of bolero in the radio programming were some of the researches awarded by jury, presided over by writer Edelmis Anoceto Vega.     

Among the entertainers that took part in the closing gig were the Ballet Folklórico de Camagüey, Los Soneros de Camacho and Los Agramontinos bands, the Choir of Camaguey and others.  

The 10th edition of Boleros de Oro Provincial Festival was dedicated to musician and musicologist Rafael “Papito” García Grassa and Jorge Luis Betancourt, both late emblematic personages of the Cuban music.  (Radio Cadena Agramonte)
