G8 Summit in U.S. Continues
Washington, May 19. – The second day of the 38th Summit of the Group of Eight (G-8), which loses the protagonism every day to the push of emergent economies, continues here on Saturday.
Up to now, no important agreements have been reached among the representatives of the United States, Japan, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Canada and Russia.
Analysts do not expect the meeting will find solutions to the crisis shaking the world, and due to the lack of practical results, expectations are placed on the discussions of the Group of 20.
During the meeting, the United States insisted on a collective commitment to coordinately releasing the reserves of oil to stop the increase in fuel prices.
The meeting is being held in Camp David, in the U.S. Presidents' residence, under strong security measures to limit the protests.
Hundreds of demonstrators from Baltimore and Washington are expected to arrive, said Beth Emmerling, from Occupy Baltimore, who added that she was sure that the demonstrators will see that their posters will be seen by the guests at the summit.
She did not rule out that U.S. President Barack Obama and his guests will watch the news on the protests in the press, with photos of the demonstrators carrying their posters (Prensa Latina)
