Syria will Reject Arab League Initiative in his Absence Damascus, Mar 29. – Syria, which welcomed the plan presented by UN envoy Kofi Annan, warned on Thursday, however, that it will reject any initiative proposed or adopted by the Arab League in its absence during the summit being held in Baghdad, Iraq. The spokesman for the Syrian Foreign Minister, Jihad Maqdisi, said participants in the regional meeting in Baghdad are debating a new proposal or plan on to Syria.

Since the suspension of this country at the Pan-Arab body, Damascus has handled relations with the nations of the region on a bilateral basis between States, "therefore, it will not deal with or accept any initiative from the Arab League at any level in its absence", the spokesman stressed.

On the other hand, in New Delhi, where the Summit of the Group of Emerging Countries BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), is being held, Russian President Dimitry Medvedev emphasized that Moscow rejects all forms of foreign interference in Syria's internal affairs and urged armed groups to stop terrorist violence.(Prensa Latina)
