Syrian Gov´t Sets Free Other Group of Prisoners

Damascus, Dec 5. -The authorities on Thursday released another 552 citizens involved in riots in the recent nine months, they did not commit violent crimes or blood, the government said.With that group, the Syrian authorities total 3,952 released people in compliance with the settlement reached with the Arab League (AL).Since the AL observers arrived in the country two weeks ago, the national authorities released 1,207 prisoners: 755 on December 28, and now this group of 552.

On November 30, 912 people were allowed to go free of charge, 1,180 on November 15, and 553 on November 5, just 72 hours after signing the agreement between Damascus and the regional body.

The Syrian authorities have been complying with the provisions of that agreement, despite pressures and the ongoing political and media campaign aimed at overthrowing the administration of President Bashar al-Assad, a Western source told Prensa Latina on Thursday.

As part of the agreement, about 20 journalists from the media around the world will arrive in the capital on Saturday, with a special permission for various days to report on the situation in the country. (Prensa Latina)
