Russian Social Movement Greets Cuban Revolution Anniversary

Moscow, Jan 2. -The Venceremos movement on Monday saluted the Cuban people for the 53rd anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution and reaffirmed its support for the fight against the U.S. blockade of more than half a century.According to a letter from the Venceremos movement, the shameful U.S. blockade of the the Caribbean island, condemned for 20 years by the vast majority of members of the the UN General Assembly, must cease.

In addition, along with friends of the island nation around the world, the movement asks the U.S. government to return to Cuba the so-called Cuban Five: Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Rene Gonzalez, unjustly sentenced in the United States.

The Five serve harsh sentences in the US for warning their country about violent actions organized by anti-Cuban groups based in U.S. territory.

At the same time, the solidarity movement demands the extradition to Venezuela of international terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, mastermind of the bombing of a Cubana airliner in 1976 off the coast of Barbados, which killed 73 people.

The Venceremos movement's note emphasizes that they will always remain faithful to the internationalist solidariy with Cuba, the defense of its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the historic victories of its people. (Prensa Latina)
