Brazilian Female Vaulter Leads Prensa Latina Sports Survey
Havana, Nov 29. -Brazilian vaulter Fabiana Murer on Tuesday took the lead in the Prensa Latina sports survey to select the best athletes in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2011.Murer, winner of the poll last year, on Tuesday received the vote of the Juventud Rebelde newspaper, while totaling three votes and being one ahead of her closest opponent, Colombian triple jumper Catherine Ibargüen.
In the men's sector, the newspaper of the Cuban youth chose Brazilian swimmer Cesar Cielo Filho, who scored his first ballot because the rest went to Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt.
Moreover, in the team selection, the Juventud Rebelde went for the Uruguay soccer team, champion of the Copa America, which already has four votes.
Among the top ten athletes of the season, the newspaper included Jamaican Yohan Blake, as well as Cuban vaulter Lazaro Borges and Dominican baseball player Albert Pujols.
The publication also mentioned Brazilian swimmer Thiago Pereira, Cuban boxers Julio Cesar La Cruz and Lázaro Álvarez, and soccer players Uruguayans Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez, and the Argentine Lionel Messi.
