Importance of Making Public Cuban 5 Case Highlighted
Havana, Nov 25. -The cause of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in the United States should be won by making it public and raising public awareness worldwide, said Alicia Jrapko, member of the International Committee for their freedom. The activist stated that alternative media has spread the case of Ramon Labañino, Gerardo Hernandez, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Rene Gonzalez, detained in 1998 for monitoring violent actions against Cuba, but the great media has silenced the case.
In statements posted in Granma newspaper website, Jrapko quoted, "we are in face of a political struggle, which should be won through the adequate information on the process and with justice."
This includes persons who, although do not share Cuba´s ideas, are capable to raise awareness with an elemental human rights case like this, she noted.
Jrapko highlighted the importance of the recent concluded International Colloquium for the release of the Five, as they are universally known, held in the Cuban province of Holguin on Nov. 16-20.
About the additional three-year punishment to Rene Gonzalez, forcing to stay under a regime of supervised release after 13 years of prison, she said there is no reason for that unjust sentence. (Prensa Latina)
