Russian Official Addresses Corruption Event in Cuba

Havana, Nov 10. -Many special speeches, among them, that of Alexander Zhdankov, director of the Accounts Chamber of Russia, are included in sessions of the 5th International Meeting on Society and its Challenges, being held in this capital.During the second day of the event, which began on Wednesday at Havana's Conference Center, the paper entitled "The role of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation in the fight against corruption," as well as the lecture by Rafael Romeo, an economist of the International Monetary Fund, will be presented in the forum.

More than 350 representatives from some 20 countries of America, Africa and Europe are attending the meeting, sponsored by the Republic of Cuba's Attorney General's office.

The meeting, to run until Friday, is attended by delegates from Venezuela, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Mexico and Russia, among others.

On Wednesday, Cuban Attorney General Dario Delgado reaffirmed his country's willingness to fight corruption, stating that the phenomenon requires an organized confrontation.

Meanwhile, General Comptroller Gladys Bejerano advocated for promoting greater citizen participation to monitor public administration.

Venezuela's Attorney General Luisa Ortega Diaz, and Antonio Mazzitelli, regional representative for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean department of the UN Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention, also addressed the event. (Prensa Latina)
