Yellow Alert for Rains Continues in Costa Rica

San Jose, Oct 17. -The Costa Rican authorities maintain the yellow alert triggered by heavy rains in the Pacific coast and the central zone, with two deaths reported so far.The National Emergency Commission (CNE) quoted the national weather forecast as saying that rains will continue due to a low pressure system in the Pacific Ocean.

That system is affecting several Costa Rican regions, with reports of damage on roads and highways, particularly in the western and central areas.

The intense rains keep flooding the Pacific coast, especially the southern section and the northern province of Guanacaste.

Valle Central, one of the regions most affected on the weekend, reported landslides that left several communities isolated, while the number of evacuees amounted to 325 people, according to the CNE.

The CNE has invested about 445,000 USD in materials and machinery to support the affected zones, the institution said in the release.

It is estimated that some 10,000 people have been affected so far by the floods. (Prensa Latina)
