Cuba Marks World Alzheimer’s Day
Havana, Sep 7. -An extensive health education program on Alzheimer's disease is being held in Old Havana scientific and cultural institutions leading up to World Alzheimer's Day on Sep. 21. Sponsored by the Havana Pharmaceutical Museum, formerly La Reunion Drugstore, one of the most significant workshops is an interactive meeting with people who care for Alzheimer's patients, addressing aspects for preventing that disease, a neurodegenerative pathology.
Another sessions will focus on education for health among older adults and the risks of self-medication, featuring academics from the Pharmacy and Food Institute of the University of Havana.
The workshops are part of a series of health projects implemented by the Havana City Historian's Office and aimed at raising awareness about preventing chronic diseases through talks by experts.
Another objective is to help patients' relatives learn more about prevention and management of Alzheimer's.
Established by the World Health Organization and the International Alzheimer's Federation, Sep. 21 is a day to reflect on and raise public awareness worldwide about caring patients for Alzheimer's patients. (Prensa Latina)
