Copa America Soccer Tournament: Brazil to Quarterfinals
Cordoba, Argentina, Jul 14. -Brazil defeated Ecuador 4-2 on Wednesday, qualifying for the quarterfinals of the 2011 Copa America soccer tournament.
Brazilian Alexandre Pato scored twice ('28, '61) and Neymar Santos Jr. matched his compatriot ('49, '72), placing Brazil, coached by Manuel Menezes, as leader of Group B in the game at Mario Alberto Kempes stadium.
Brazil, which is Copa America defending champion and five-time world champion, won for the first time in this year's tournament after two consecutive draws, with Venezuela (0-0) and Paraguay (2-2), respectively.
Ecuador, however, was disqualified after a draw with Paraguay (0-0), and two defeats, to Venezuela (0-1) and Brazil (2-4), respectively.
With the Brazil-Ecuador match, the qualification round ended on Wednesday. The Copa America ends July 24. (Prensa Latina)
