Colombian Guerrilla to Release Prisoners, Former Senator Says

Bogota, Jul 14. -Former Senator Piedad Cordoba said that she would soon provide details about the possible liberation of prisoners held by guerrilla forces.Cordoba, leader of the organization Colombians for Peace, said an anti-war event would be held Aug. 3, and that she would talk about the work of organizations and women who are seeking peace.

Once the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) release the detainees, the government of President Juan Manuel Santos should establish a dialogue to end the conflict, she said.

In 2008, the FARC unilaterally released dozen of prisoners, including politicians, police and soldiers, a process in which Cordoba's work was crucial. (Prensa Latina)
