Haiti: UNESCO Envoy Praises Cuban Humanitarian Work
Paris, Jan 22. -UNESCO Special Envoy for Haiti, Michaelle Jean, praised Cuba's support to Haiti, a country devastated by an earthquake a year ago, in matters of health.
In statements to Prensa Latina, the official highlighted the presence and contribution of numerous Cuban medical teams.
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Director General, Irina Bokova, expressed on Thursday that Haiti is a humanism test.
She urged, one more time, to accomplish the commitments agreed upon to reconstruct the Caribbean island.
Bokova reiterated the responsibility undertaken by the Organization with Haitians and regretted that insecurity prevails a year after an earthquake devastated this country.
Since Thursday, UNESCO is hosting a round table with the participation of international experts assessing the efforts carried out in the reconstruction of Haiti, a country devastated by a quake that killed more than 300,000 people, according to recent figures. (Prensa Latina)
