Almost 68,000 Cubans Studying to be Teachers

Havana, Dec 16. -More than 67,900 students are studying for teaching degrees in Cuban universities this year, according to the Ministry of Higher Education.

According to the National News Agency, Deputy Education Minister Rolando Forneiro said at a news conference that changes have been made at the universities to improve the quality of future teachers and their professional training.

New programs include training for intermediate and higher education teachers specializing in the combinations of Mathematics/Physics, Biology/Geography, and Vocational Training/Computers, among others.

In September, a new program was implemented for 12th grade students who plan to major in mathematics and physics to begin taking preparatory courses at the university, he noted.
