Santo Domingo, Oct 16. -The 5th Latin American and Caribbean Carbon Forum closed yesterday with debates on furthering financing and investments for mitigating climate change.

The last day of the event, which opened on Wednesday, is also devoted to designing cooperation agreements for implementing the Clean Development Mechanism, which is part of the Kyoto Protocol for fighting global warming.

Measures for energy efficiency, reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation, and the role of these market instruments are also issues on the agenda for today.

Market strategies are useful tools for mobilizing and transferring resources for reducing the impact of climate change.

Over 600 guests from 55 countries will focus on the policies and planning required for generating those facilities and guaranteeing financing.

The 5th Latin American and Caribbean Carbon Forum precedes the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 16) in Cancun, Mexico, in December. (Prensa Latina)
