Sao Paulo Forum Asks Obama to Free the Cuban 5

Sao Paulo Forum Asks Obama to Free the Cuban 5 San Salvador, Sep 26. – Central America and Caribbean Parties attending the Sao Paulo Forum demanded on Monday U.S. President Barack Obama the release of five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in that northern country since 1998.At the end of its third annual meeting, those organizations denounced in San Salvador the injustice committed against those antiterrorist fighters for 13 years.

They expressed concern for the U.S. governmentâÖs decision to hide essential evidences in the trial against one of the Cuban Five, Gerardo Hernandez, in addition of denying a habeas corpus appeal.

Participants in the forum also condemn the decision by a Florida judge to force Rene Gonzalez to live in Miami for the next three years, whose prison sentence expires on Oct. 7, violating a previous order not to get to places where terrorists are.

The measure puts at risk the life of Rene, because it obliges him to live where anti-Cuban criminal people and organizations are located, instead of allow him to travel to Cuba and reunite with his family, they state.

In that sense, they wonder if ReneâÖs security will be responsible for authorities who protect terrorists or the federal government, which have never charged with murders such as Luis Posada Carriles.

Those attending the Sao Paulo Forum demand Obama to use his power under the Constitution and release the Five, so they can return to their homeland.

Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Ramon Labañino only gathered information to their country on violent anti-Cuban groups who act with total impunity in Florida.(Prensa Latina)
