Judge Nixes Obama Decision on Deep-water Drilling

Judge Nixes Obama Decision on Deep-water DrillingWashington, Jun 23. -Judge Martin Feldman ruled in favor of the oil companies that called for overturning a moratorium the White House imposed on deep-water drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.

After the oil spill triggered by the Deepwater Horizon rig explosion, President Barack Obama imposed a six-month moratorium on deep-water drilling until security parameters were guaranteed.

According to analysts, the ruling is a blow to Obama's administration which hoped the moratorium gave time for other wells to work safety.

In this regard, the White House will immediately appeal to the 5th Circuit, said spokesman Robert Gibbs.

President Obama is totally convinced that drilling at those depths until the safety issues are fully understood does not make any sense, spokesman Robert Gibbs added.

Hornbeck Offshore Services said that Obama's moratorium stopped 33 rigs involved in exploration drilling, what is arbitrary and outrageous. (Prensa Latina)
