Zeolite Output Development in the Cuban Central Region

Santa Clara, Cuba, June 5 .-The Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel’s call to zeolite output development as raw material to substitute imports has had a very productive response.

The ‘Tasajeras of Ranchuelo’ workers of a Base Business Unit, in Santa Clara municipality, hope this year to exceed the 25,000-ton zeolite extraction reached in 2018.

According to Miguel Diaz, commercial specialist, the key product of this industry is Fertisol, used to manufacture granulated fertilizers for soil improvement.

He said that the zeolite is also used as animal diet complement, as well as Zook, intended for poultry farming, in order to eliminate the presence of contamination vectors.

It is also planned to introduce Zeovid in pig farming. This product will make it possible to improve animal diet and health, make digestion much easier and combat diarrheal diseases.

The Tasajeras quarry, working since 1988, produces zeolite with separate granulometries. It facilitates different uses due to its ultra-high ion exchange, absorption, hydration and chemical composition capacity, among other properties.

This plant also foresees the resumption of zeolite exports, considered to be the 20th century’s mineral.(Prensa Latina)
