Cuba calls for seminar on Journalism and Tourism

Havana, Feb 25.-Cuban authorities today called for the 14th International Seminar on Journalism and Tourism to be held next June, a meeting that in its most recent editions attracted reporters mainly from Latin America.

Hilda Prieto, director of the Specialized Section of the Tourist Press of the Cuban Union of Journalists (UPEC), told Prensa Latina that on this occasion there is an increased interest in participating in this professional meeting.

She said that this year’s version (June 24-28, at the Jose Marti International Journalism Institute in the capital) will be dedicated to Havana’s 500th anniversary on November 16.

Among the topics are the opportunities offered by event tourism and incentives for an industry that increasingly provides links with fun and vacations.

Attendees will also discuss communication and specialized journalism in the promotion and development of travel industry options associated with cultural knowledge.

Journalists and communicators from Ibero-America and the Caribbean will have an opportunity to talk and seek responses in an exchange between colleagues that benefits this sector, assured Prieto, who is also a journalist for the Cuban news television system.

In the list of topics of the meeting are added the relationship of tourism with sustainable development.

Considered by tour operators and international travel agencies as an excellent venue for congress tourism, meetings and incentive trips, the city will also host the XXIII MITM Americas 2019 Fair (May), dedicated precisely to meeting and congress topics.

Havana, Cuba’s main tourist destination, receives more than 50 percent of the country’s foreign visitors, attracted by its culture, heritage beauty, history, traditions and the hospitality of its people, stressed the expert.

Organized by the Institute’s Chair in Journalism and Tourism, the seminar includes conferences and panels with top-level experts from Cuba and other countries. (Prensa Latina)
