Casa de las Americas launches call for 61st Literary Prize

Havana, Jan 11 .-Casa de las Americas launched a call for the 61rst Casa Prize, which from January 20 to 30 will recognize the best of literary creation in Latin America.

 

The President of the institution, Abel Prieto, highlighted the award’s relevance in the current political context and recalled the legacy of essayist and Casa founder Roberto Fernandez Retamar, who died last July, in exercising effective leadership in pursuit of literary and artistic creation.

The call is a commitment and a great victory for the Cuban Revolution, which is devoted to culture, humanism and thought, even under the toughest conditions, the Cuban intellectual stressed.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Center for Literary Research, Jorge Fornet, confirmed the presence of some twenty intellectuals, from ten countries, who will make up the jury of the literary event, which will review more than 300 competing works in the genres of stories, theater, and artistic and literary essay.

The event will be held in this capital and the south-central city of Cienfuegos, where the winning books of the Casa 2019 Prize will be presented, published by this cultural institution.(Prensa Latina)
