Nearly 30,000 People Are Working in the Non-state Sector in Camagüey ProvinceCamagüey, Aug 28. – With nearly 30,000 people working in the non-state sector, Camagüey is among the Cuban provinces where this employment stream is most popular.

More than half of the new workers in the non-state sector were not working before, and of them, almost 20 percent are retired people and 14 percent are housewives.

The number of people coming from the state sector is minimal and they are mostly workers who couldn’t keep their jobs when the demonstrated suitability process was done in their workplaces.

According to Yanet Casanova Cosío, an official of the Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, the municipalities boasting the highest numbers of self-employed workers are Camaguey, Florida, Nuevitas, Guáimaro, and Vertientes.

The local official also affirmed that the number of men and women working in the non-state sector tends to grow in Camagüey province; consequently this employment stream is gaining momentum in the local economy. (Radio Cadena Agramonte).
