Cultural Event Wraps up Today in Camagüey

Cultural Event Wraps up Today in CamagüeyCamagüey, Aug 13.- Full of satisfaction due to the happiness shared in this literary feast, the people of Camagüey will see off today the attendees to the 9th edition of the Cruzada Literaria (cultural event featuring book presentations, literary debates, book readings) which – as usual – welcomed writers and artists from several cities countrywide.

Organized by the Camagüey-based Hermanos Saíz Association, the one-week event included visits to remote communities in the municipalities of Najasa (approximately 42 km of the city of Camagüey), Santa Cruz del Sur (some 82 km south of the city of Camagüey), Nuevitas (about 84 km north-east of Camagüey) and Jimaguayú (about 20 km south of Camagüey).

Various artistic expressions like audiovisuals, music, dance, visual arts and narrative merged around precious moments in which both readers and writers could equally enjoy such necessary feedback when it comes to a literary work and its creator.

An important cultural exchange took place in the city’s seat of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), La Comarca literary café of the House of the Young Creator, the Proyecto eJo socio-cultural institution and La Avellaneda cultural complex, strategic spaces that promote the literary riches that distinguish this Cuban province.

Concerts, poetry readings, book and magazine presentations, intimate trova gigs and audio-visual screenings gave rise to unforgettable showdowns between artists and audience, who expect every August a new edition of the event bringing young Cuban creators to Camagüey.

Tonight, the Cruzada Literaria will pay homage to the Saiz brothers and the 86th birthday of Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro at the city’s Principal Theater with a gala in which poets, traditional singer-songwriters and guest artists will take part. (Radio Cadena Agramonte).
