Caravan Today for Freedom to Travel to Cuba in USA

Caravan Today for Freedom to Travel to Cuba in USA Washington, May 5. – Organizations of Cuban residents in Miami, Florida, called on followers and volunteers in the United States to join a caravan on Saturday to protest restrictions on travel to the Island and deplore terrorism.

Groups sponsoring the initiative include Alianza Martiana and Liga de Defensa Cubanoamericana. The caravan is scheduled to start midday through main Miami avenues.

"The terrorist attack that destroyed the offices of Airline Brokers in Coral Gables, Miami, was, in essence, an attack against our right to travel to Cuba," stresses the call.

This week groups of Cuban residents in the United States decried the terrorist actions against businesses that have relations with Havana and urged Washington to lift travel restrictions.

A statement issued by these groups in solidarity with Cuba was signed by Alianza Martiana, the Antonio Maceo Brigade, the Jose Marti Association, the Bolivarian Club of Miami and the Association of Christian Women in Defense of Family.

The initiative was also joined by the Foundation for the Normalization of Relations between the United States and Cuba, the League of Cuban-American Defense and the Socialist Party of Workers, among other non-governmental organizations supporting the Cuban people.

"We want to make clear that we strongly condemn the terrorist act that destroyed (on April 27) the Airline Brokers offices, a company that charter non-stop flights to Cuba," says the text.

It adds that "we consider this criminal act as a terrorist act not only against Airline Brokers but against the right of all US citizens to travel to Cuba, mainly the right to travel and share and help their families."

The document urges Congress people and other elected civil servants in the state of Florida to declare themselves against this terrorist act. "None of them has done it. This situation is really embarrassing," says the statement.

The fire early Friday, Apr. 27, in Airline Brokers was deliberate and is still under investigation by federal detectives, according to government experts.(Prensa Latina)
