Brazil Govt to Save 320,000 Families from Poverty in 2012
Brasilia, Jan 20. -The Brazilian government will intensify its efforts to rescue up to 320,000 families living in poverty, Minister of Social Development and Hunger Alleviation Tereza Campello announced.Campello told reporters that was the guideline she received from President Dilma Rousseff, whom she met at the Palace of the Highlands, as part of the new mission of "Brazil without Poverty" program, which aims to eradicate abject poverty in this nation by the end of 2014.
Noting that the federal government has signed agreements with nine states to supplement the income of families in extreme poverty tracked by the mission, Campello announced the official intention to increase these agreements.
"That strategy is very important because it not only unites people living in poverty, but complements their income. In 2012, only in the nine states that have signed the pact with the federal government, 450,000 households are expected to receive support from Bolsa Familia (financial aid program to poor families) said Campello.
Campello reported that Rousseff oriented her to strengthen the Brazil without Misery program for children under five years and to help the 250,000 extremely poor farmer families, of whom 85 percent live in rural areas of the Northeast Region of the country.
Official statistics show that Brazil without Misery overattained all its goals in six months as 407,000 families in extreme poverty were located in June-December 2011, which were included in the Cadastral Unified Social Programs for receiving funds from the Bolsa Familia. (Prensa Latina)
