Catalonian Singer Maria del Mar Bonet to Perform in Cuba

Havana, Jan 6. -Spanish folk singer Maria del Mar Bonet will perform in Cuba on January 20 in a one-day concert accompanied by the National Symphonic Orchestra, sources from the Cuban Music Institute told to Prensa Latina on Thursday.Maria del Mar Bonet will perform at the Lazaro Peña Theater in Havana, where she will officially receive the 2011 International Cubadisco Award, granted to her CD "Bellver", recorded together with the Ciutat de Palma Symphonic Orchestra, from the Balearic Islands, Spain.

The concert "Islas del Mar" (Islands in the Sea) will includes some of the 15 songs in the CD of the same name, among them "La Balenguera", "Merhaba" and "Per Hipocrates".

Born in Palma de Mallorca, the Balearic Islands, 64 years ago, Bonet is one of the most popular voices of her generation and one of the most outstanding singers in the so-called "Nova Can" artistic movement. (Prensa Latina)
