Prensa Latina Poll to Choose the Best Athletes from Latin AmericaLa Habana.- Prensa Latina news agency calls the world to participate in the 45th edition of the survey to choose the best athletes from Latin America and the Caribbean in 2011.

The survey is held since 1964, and participants could send their vote through email to deportes@prensa-latina.cuEsta dirección de correo electrónico está protegida contra los robots de spam, necesita tener Javascript activado para poder verla , or directly to the Prensa Latina news correspondents in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.

The survey will award the best male and female athletes, most outstanding team, and also give certificates to the 10 athletes with most votes after the individual winners.

The deadline for voting closes on Thursday, December 22, 2011, and the results will be announced the following day.

As follows, the list of proposed candidates to which those participating in the survey can add figures or teams not included in it that are worthy to opt for any of the categories.

SPORTSMEN

1.- Albert Pujols (Baseball-Dominican Republic)

Champion of the Major League Baseball (MLB) with the St. Louis Cardinals. He averaged .299, 37 homers and 99 walks during the regular season. In 18 playoff games he averaged .353, five homers and 16 RBIs.

2.- Usain Bolt (Athletics-Jamaica)

Sprinter and five-time World and three-time Olympic gold medalist. He is the world recordman and Olympic record holder in the 100 meters, the 200 meters and (along with his teammates) the 4Ã-100 meters relay. He was awarded with the IAAF World Athlete of the Year.

3.- Yohan Blake (Athletics-Jamaica) Sprinter and the current 100 meter World Champion in Daegu, South Korea.

Olympic record holder in the 4×100 relay. Blake set a 2011 world leading time in the 200m with a personal best of 19.26 seconds becoming the youngest champion in the history of athletics.

4.- Lionel Messi (Soccer-Argentina)

Champion with FC Barcelona of La Liga and UEFA Champions League, where he was among the top scorers.

5.- Diego Forlan (Soccer-Uruguay)

He won with Uruguay the Copa America scoring two goals in the final against Paraguay.

6.- Luis Suarez (Soccer-Uruguay)

He won with Uruguay the America Cup and was named Player of the Tournament for scoring four goals. He also scored four times in 13 games during his first Premier League with Liverpool.

7.- Lazaro Borges (Athletics-Cuba)

Cuban pole vaulter who won a silver medal in 2011 World Championships with 5.90 meters, setting a new Cuban record. He won the gold medal in the Pan American Games in Guadalajara.

8.- Juan Jose Barea (Basketball- Puerto Rico) Champion of the US basketball pro league, worldwide called National Basketball Association with the Dallas Mavericks. Champion in the Pan American Games.

9.- Cesar Cielo (Swimming-Brazil)

Champion of the world in 50 freestyle meters and 50 butterfly style at the World Championship in Shanghai and winner of four gold medals in the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, a place where he set a Pan American record.

10.- Thiago Pereira (Swimming-Brazil)

Winner of six golden medals at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara.

11.- Julio Cesar la Cruz (Boxing-Cuba)

World Champion in Baku, Azerbaidzhan and Champion in the Pan American Games.

12.- Lazaro Alvarez (Boxing-Cuba)

World Champion in Baku and Champion in the Pan American Games.

13.- Jaime Garcia (Baseball-Mexico)

Champion of the Major League Baseballâ�Ös National League and World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals. He won 13 games, lost 7 at the regular season, with a 3.56 ERA, 156 strikeouts and two whitewashes.

14.- Paolo Guerrero (Soccer-Peru)

A cornerstone in the quest for the 3rd place for the Peruvian team in the America Cup. He was the leading goal scorer, with five goals.

15.- Radamel Falcao (Soccer-Colombia)

After an exceptional campaign with the Oporto, with which he scored 39 goals in 42 matches, he led his team to the finals of the Europa Cup, and set a record scoring 17 goals. He left Portugal when his team finished as Champion of the League, the Cup and the Super Cup. In the Athletic of Madrid, he scored 9 goals in his first 14 matches.

Female Athletes:

1.-Fabiana Murer (Athletics-Brazil)

World Champion in pole vault in Daegu, South Korea and runner-up and silver medallist in the Pan American Games.

2.-Catherine Ibarguen (Athletics-Colombia)

World bronze medallist in Daegu, Champion in the Pan American Games and author of a South American record in the triple jump.

3.-Yarelis Barrios (Athletics-Cuba)

World silver medallist in discos in Daegu and Champion at the Pan American Games

4.- Gisela Dulko (Tennis-Argentina)

A winner, together with her teammate Flavia Penneta (Italy) in the Open of Australia. Later she became the mixed double silver medallist at the US Open, with Eduardo Schwank.

5.-Paola Espinosa (Diving-Mexico)

World bronze medallist in platform in Shanghai, gold medalist in the World Universiad in Shenzen, China. Winner of three gold medals in the Pan American Games in Guadalajara.

6.-Paola Longoria (Racquetbol-Mexico)

Second place in the world ranking of squash. Winner of three gold medals in the Pan American Games in Guadalajara.

Teams:

Champion of the Pre-Olympic Tournament of the Americas.

2. – Male Soccer of Uruguay

Champion of the America Cup.
