China to Increase Investment in Renewable Energy
Beijing, Dec 5. -China will allocate about 473,186 million USD to industries related to environmental protection in the period 2011-2015, according to official sources.This nation has become the world's largest investor in renewable energy, said Wang Yuqing, deputy director of the National Commission on Population, Resources and Environment, part of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, as quoted by the media.
In 2010 the country spent more than 47,318 million dollars in renewable energy sources, said the senior official at a forum held in Nanning, capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The figure exceeds that of any other country, he said.
The government is striving to develop a green economy and promote environmentally friendly industries, he said.
According to the 12th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development (2011-2015), the country would have an installed solar energy capacity of 10 gigawatts by the end of this period. (Prensa Latina)
