Cuba Recalls Disembarkation of Granma Yacht
Havana, Dec 2. – Cubans recall on Friday the disembarkation of the Granma yacht in the southeastern coast of Cuba, an event that marked the beginning of the path to the triumph of the Cuban Revolution 55 years ago.
During this date, also celebrating the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) Day, Cubans recall the journey of that ship, that although it was designed to accommodate 25 people, carried 82 men, headed by leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro, from Mexico.
Some days after the disembarkation, the expedition received its baptism of fire in a place called Alegria de Pio, an event that left alive a few of its members.
However, these men undertook a war that overthrew the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista starting a new period in the Cuban history on January 1, 1959.(Prensa Latina)
