U.S.A. World”s Worst Terrorist, Says Cindy Sheehan

Holguin, Cuba, Nov 19. -The United States is the biggest terrorist organization in the world, declared today Cindy Sheehan, a US pacifist who is participating in the VII Colloquium for the release of the Cuban Five and Against Terrorism, taking place in Cuba.In an interview with Prensa Latina, the activist, whose son Casey was killed in the US war against Iraq while he was serving as a soldier, said she decided to enrol in solidarity movements after she lost him.

My son was soldier in the US military, so I believe he was a victim of the US war, which I don´t call the war on terror, but the war of terror against the world, she added.

In her opinion, the actions of the US government are by definition terrorist actions, because when you bomb, occupy and torture populations for things like regime change or ideological reasons that is basically a definition of terrorism.

For her, the anti-war and peace causes are intimate connected to the Cuban Five and to every people unjustly imprisoned and also to those in the prison that her country´s administration still operates in the Cuban eastern province of Guantánamo, where most of the prisoners are innocent, she said.

Regarding the case of René González, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González, Gerardo Hernández y Antonio Guerrero, the Cuban Five as they are known worldwide, she commented that she heard of them for the first time in 2006 while she was in Venezuela for the World Social Forum.

Then she met relatives of the Five for the first time and learnt that there were five antiterrorist fighters unjustly imprisoned in the US since 1998 for working in that country to stop terrorist actions

against Cuban and North American peoples, and how at the same time the US government harbours real terrorists like Luis Posada Carriles. Since then, she decided to learn more about the case and began working with groups dedicated to tell US citizens the truth about the Cuban Five.

Regarding her motivations to participate in this edition of the colloquium, she commented: "I´m here to know more about the case and more about what I can do to help, because there is a movement in US that is dedicated and passionate with the cause, but it is very small".

"I´m also here to network with people all over the world who demand the release of the Cuban Five and to learn how I can help without causing any harm with my actions," she added.

One of my goals is to help build a movement in the US to pressure the government to release the Five, she concluded.

About the committees of solidarity with the Five existing in US, she said that the main activities are concentrated in big cities like New York, Chicago and San Francisco, where she has seen a great job done, especially in the harbour area.

Her recent activities included a visit to five universities in Chicago, coordinated by the International Committee of Solidarity with the Five, where she shared information about the case with the students, who showed interest in knowing about the case.

I was talking about the hypocrisy of how the Cuban Five are unjustly imprisoned, but a coward terrorist like (Luis) Posada Carriles is protected by the US government, affirmed.

On the other hand, Sheehan considers that independent journalists are important to fight the media silence and the negative propaganda existing in the US against Cuba.

In that sense, she has a weekly radio show where she interviews persons related to the cause like Gloria La Riva, coordinator of the National US Committee for the release of the Five. She also has a blog connected to her radio show.

Cindy Sheehan will today lead a women's march against terrorism and for the release of the Cuban Five in Holguin as part of the international forum. (Prensa Latina)
