Correa, Workers Confederation Ink Ethical-Political Agreement
Quito, Nov 16. -The signature of an ethical-political agreement between Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa and the Confederation of Public Workers, was described on Wednesday by both parties as an important step of the Citizens'' Revolution.
The agreement with the new union, which brings together 60,000 workers and employees of unions in the country, was signed yesterday in the city of Guayaquil, and seeks to provide a better service to users in a new model of public administration.
It also stated the mechanisms through which public sector employees contribute to improving the quality of services in the sector and the eradication of corruption.
Correa said that the government believes in the union movement to defend workers and their rights, but not in abuse, lies and corruption.
This agreement created the largest union in the country, which gathers organizations like the Federation of Workers of the Electrical Industry of Ecuador and the Organization of Workers' Unions of Public Health.
Correa also defended the decree that determines the obligatory purchase of resignations in the public sector and said that they have followed due process and taken tough decisions, but that they have a great responsibility with the majorities of the population.
Doris Soliz, the Social Development Minister, said that the transformation of the public service will be carried out with good officers and workers, "which is why we have to ratify the commitment to advance in the path of change".
Marcelo Solorzano, president of the new Confederation, stressed that the regular meeting between Correa and the union allows that the intentions of the agreement do not remain in rhetoric and on paper.
He also added that they will support the successes of the regime and criticize its mistakes. With regard to this, Solorzano emphasized that in all instances changes will be requested through dialogue. (Prensa Latina)
