Latam: Calls for Integration of Public Policies in Transport

Santiago, Chile, Nov 15. -Ministers and experts from Ibero-America called for integrated and sustainable policies on infrastructure, logistic and mobility in the transportation sector.Summoned by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the specialists examined here on Monday the effects of the infrastructure policies on the economic and social development of the countries of the region, and outlined the main challenges in this field.

The debates took place during the seminary called "Total Development and Policies of Transportation in Latin America," sponsored by State Ports of the Spanish Ministry of Public Works and Economy and the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development.

ECLAC Executive Secretary Alicia Bárcena warned that in light of the danger of a slowdown in Latin America in 2012, as a result of the global crisis, long-term development policies are required.

That view, she added, must include the efficient provision of infrastructure services, and particularly transportation, since they condition productivity and competitiveness of economic agents, industries and economies, as well as people's quality of life.(Prensa Latina)
