New Rice Mill Installed in Esmeralda, Camagüey

New Rice Mill Installed in Esmeralda, CamagüeyCamagüey, Cuba, Sep 27.- With the starting-up of a new rice mill in Esmeralda, some 94 km north-west of Camagüey, there are a total of four cereal-processing facilities aiming at providing the province with this food. This Brazilian-built mill grinds some 20 metric tons of rice per day, and this is the only one located in northern Camagüey, thanks to contracts signed with the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas (ALBA).

Esmeralda’s new mill also contributes to save energy and other resources, since rice-growers do not have to transport their productions to neighbouring municipalities such as Vertientes or Camagüey.

The goal of these Camaguey farmers for this year is to produce over 20,000 metric tons of rice for human consumption, which is noticeable after the results of the current harvest. ( Raysa Mestril GutiérrezThis / Radio Cadena Agramonte).
