Japan: Fuel Fusion in Nuke Reactors Confirmed
Tokyo, May 25.-Tokyo Electric Power company, operator of the Japanese Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, confirmed on Tuesday the partial fusion of fuel in its reactors 2, 3 and 1.
The company underlined that the pressure vessel of those reactors caould be damaged.
The announcement was made public after six inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) arrived in Japan on Monday to assess the situation in Fukushima triggered by the March 11 earthquake-tsunami.
The Japanese government created on Tuesday an independent commission of experts, headed by Professor Emerito Yotaro Hatamura of Tokyo University, to investigate the causes of the accident.
This panel will present a partial report on its work in December and a final one by the summer of 2012. (Prensa Latina)
