Cuban Musicians Play Longest “Son” in the World
Pinar del Rio, Cuba, May 4. -After resounding for 24 hours, a traveling, non-stop performance of the Cuban musican genre known as son continued en route to the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba, where it will arrive on May 14.
The refrains and rhythmical twists of this son are now being enjoyed in Artemisa province, leading up to the 2011 Cubadisco International Fair, once again devoted to this genre and its exponents.
In Pinar del Rio, more than 20 bands performed on a stage located in the historical distric, a festivity that marked the start of a musical journey through the island.
It is a real dance marathon that shakes every plaza, because of the deep-rooted popularity of son, a favorite in Cuba and abroad, the provincial director of Culture, Gabriel Acosta, told Prensa Latina.
The Cuban people will dance for half a month to the beat of emblematic pieces performed by famous singers and groups from the national and international scene. (Prensa Latina)
