Immigrants Protest Massacres, Abuse in Mexico

Immigrants Protest Massacres, Abuse in MexicoMexico City, Apr 21. -A religious-like demonstration called "The Immigrant''s Way of the Cross" is heading for Ixtepec, in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, to protest the massacre in San Fernando, Tamaulipas.

Central American human rights activists and immigrants are participating in the march, which began Wednesday on the bank of the Suchiate River on the Guatemalan border, where they erected a cross with the inscription "Sentenced to Death," El Universal newspaper reported.

"The nightmare of our immigrant brothers and sisters begins at this river, because when they arrive in Mexico, the local authorities violate their human rights," activist Elvira Arellano said.

The religious walk will make a stop today in an area known as "Arrocera", where many attacks on immigrants have been reported. The marchers will then walk along the railroad in the town of Arraiga to protest the kidnappings and massacres of people who board the train known as "The Beast," according to the paper.

On Friday, Oaxaca will be the final destination, a city that Ixtepec priest Alejandro Solalinde calls the Mexican capital of kidnappings of Central and South American emigrants. (Prensa Latina)
