Activists in Southern Camaguey work to prevent tuberculosis

Activists in Southern Camaguey work to prevent tuberculosis Santa Cruz del Sur, Mar 28. –Although the tuberculosis rate in Cuba is very low, the health activists in Southern Camagüey include chats on this terrible illness in their Education and Promotion Program, having people to be aware of the magnitude and the risk factors of this sickness in the world, with the objective of strengthening the community participation.

Their presence in these days is very usual even in the most remote neighborhood, carrying the timely advice and making the effective investigation on this disease, which is preventable and curable; it’s just a matter of evaluation and surveillance.

The bacillus of the tuberculosis is named Mycobacterium tuberculosis, is a microorganism with bacillary shape that behaves like a strict aerobic. Its growing is subordinated to the presence of oxygen and the surrounding PH value. It resists cold, freezing and drying, being on the contrary very sensitive to heat, sunlight and ultraviolet light.

In Cuba, we have a free Public Health System, made up of professionals, technicians, promoters and facilitators, all of them devoted to constantly give information in rural zones and cities.
