Belgian Lawmakers Voice Concern Over Cuban 5

Belgian Lawmakers Voice Concern Over Cuban 5Havana, Dec 31. -Belgian members of parliament and senators voiced their concern regarding the five Cuban antiterrorists unjustly imprisoned in the United States for the last 12 years.

That concern is contained in a letter addressed to the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, and other U.S legislators and political figures, according to www.cubaminrex.cu. website.

On October 13, 2010, Amnesty International expressed deep concern over the impartiality of the evidence presented in the trial for the five men in Miami that found them guilty, the letter recalled.

The Belgian lawmakers also ask the recipients of the letter to take the issue to the House of Representatives, and urge President Barack Obama to use his constitutional prerogatives to adopt proper measures and allow justice to prevail.

The initiative is the result of meetings Belgian legislators held in October with Olga Salanueva and Adriana Perez, the wives of Rene Gonzalez and Gerardo Hernandez, respectively, two of the five imprisoned Cubans.

As part if the international campaign of solidarity with the Cuban Five, as they are known worldwide, several activities have been held in Belgium. (Prensa Latina)
