Top Russian Security Official Dies in AttackMoscow, Nov. 23. -The chief of the Federal Security Service in the southern Russian republic of Dagestan, Said Magomedov, died Monday from injuries received in a dynamite attack against his car.

The attack took place in the city of Karbudajkent. Magomedov, a lieutenant colonel, was in critical condition when he was taken to the hospital, where he died.

The Attorney General's office opened an investigation into the attack on the high-ranking security official, illegal arms trafficking, and the fabrication of homemade explosives.

Police were searching for the suspects in the terrorist attack, Moscow television reported.

Last week, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called attention to the difficult violence situation prevailing in Russia's North Caucasus, despite the antiterrorist operations waged this year, in which various gang leaders have been killed.(Prensa Latina)
