Angolan Leader Meets Cuban 5 Relatives

Havana, Nov 22. -The president of the National Assembly of Angola, Antonio Paulo Kassoma, on Tuesday meets with relatives of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in the United States, as part of his official visit to Cuba.Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez are currently serving harsh sentences ranging from 15 years to double life terms for informing on criminal plans by anti-Cuban groups in that northern country.

Rene Gonzalez, detained along with his fellow countrymen in 1998, should stay three years more on supervised release in the northern country after his release on October 7.

The Angolan parliamentary leader arrived in Cuba on Friday, to fulfill an extensive agenda, which included talks with his Cuban peer Ricardo Alarcon. Both legislators highlighted the strong ties of unity existing between their respective peoples.

Kassoma paid tribute to the island´s internationalists who died in the struggle for the independence of the African country, and the first President of his nation, Agostinho Neto (1922-1979).

During activities in Cuba, the African parliamentary leader highlighted the Cuban steps to update the economic model and strengthen the socialist system. (Prensa Latina)
