Cuba Denounces U.S. Refusal to Give Evidence

Havana, Sep 30. -Cuba denounced the U.S. government's refusal to give the satellite images of February 24, 1996, which are a key element in the case of Cuban anti-terrorist Gerardo Hernandez.Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, and Fernando Gonzalez are serving unfair sentences of up to two life terms plus 15 years for informing on terror plans against Cuba by U.S.-based anti-Cuban groups.

Granma daily issued an article today also wondering why the U.S. media remain silent to such scandalous event.

Gerardo Hernandez, who was given two life sentences plus 15 years in prison appealed for habeas corpus on the grounds of new evidence, it reads.

The case clearly shows the intention by the different U.S. governments not to go over the case, regardless of evidence corroborating that illegal methods have been used to sentence them, it added.

The U.S. government still refuses to provide the requested documentary evidence, said Richard Klugh, member of the defense team of the Cuban Five, as they are internationally known.

That evidence clearly shows what happened with the planes brought down on February 24, 1996, the text adds.

In a recent press conference, Cuban Parliament President Ricardo explained that the U.S. government has kept secret the satellite images of the incident.

The U.S. government did not allow investigators from the International Civil Aviation Organization see those images 15 years ago, refused to present them in the Miami Court, and now refuses to give them as requested by Gerardo's defense, he stressed. (Prensa Latina)
