Salvadorans Against U.S. Blockade of Cuba

San Salvador, Mar 22. -Organizations in El Salvador will demand the end of the U.S. blockade on Cuba during a visit by President Barack Obama, to begin Tuesday.

Organizers of a rally to be held in this capital with that purpose stated that they would call for the release of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly imprisoned in the United States for over 12 years.

The Salvadoran Cuba Solidarity Coordinating Committee said the rally at Salvador del Mundo Square, one of the capitalâ�Ös symbols, will start at 17:00 local time.

"For the sovereignty and dignity of El Salvador, Cuba and the peoples of the world, letâ�Ös raise one voice for the Five, against the blockade and for peace worldwide," the rally announcement says.

Coordinating Committee president Raul Martinez stated that the US blockade of the Caribbean nation is a dangerous violation of the human rights of the Cuban people.

Martinez recalled that the Five, as Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino and Rene Gonzalez are known, were condemned to harsh sentences in one of the most rigged trials in the history of the United States.

Social organizations marched on Monday to the U.S. embassy demanding the end of the blockade and the release of the Five.

Obamaâ�Ös arrival is scheduled for 12:45 local time, amid the high expectations of the President Mauricio Funes government. The objective is to strengthen bilateral relations.

Obamaâ�Ös stay in El Salvador, last stopover of a tour that already included Brazil and Chile, is characterized by a strong deployment of security forces, police and U.S. agents. (Prensa Latina)
