Cuba to Participate in World Female Handball Championship

Havana, Nov 25. -The Cuban female handball team will take part in the World Championship to be held in Brazil, said Andres Hurtado, president of the National Handball Federation of Cuba.In statements to local radio stations Hurtado said the Cuban team will go to Brazil on November 30 to make its debut precisely against the Brazilian team in its first match in the event.

This will be the return of the Caribbean players to a World Championship since 1999, when they took part in a World Championship for the first time, and finished with five defeats in five matches.

The event will be held from December 2 to 21, and Cuba wants to defeat Tunisia and Japan to go to the second round in a group where Cuba will find Iran, Romania and France.

The Cuban team has goalkeeper Eneyleidis Guevara, interior guard Yasnay Turrola, forward Mariset Fernandez and central players Naddessa Varela and Ariagnis Cuesta as main players, all of them under head coach Lorenzo Gonzalez. (Prensa Latina)
