Havana, May 10. -Children, young people and adults paid tribute on Tuesday to the late Cuban heroine Celia Sanchez Manduley, on the 91st anniversary of her birth in the town of Media Luna, Granma province.

At the tribute, the participants laid wreaths at the monument to the outstanding revolutionary in the Park of Martyrs.

The house where she was born, now a museum, hosted a virtual tour of the building and the launching of the book En Primera Persona (In First Person), a compilation of interviews with outstanding Cuban women.

Specialists from the center and from similar institutions in the municipalities of Manzanillo, Campechuela and Niquero, noted that Sanchez was the first woman to join the Rebel Army, which overthrew the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship and led to the victory of the Revolution on Jan. 1, 1959.

They also referred to the heroine's work alongside revolutionary leader Fidel Castro for 23 years, and her efforts to preserve valuable historical documents. (Prensa Latina)
