Beijing, Nov 16. -The Chinese supercomputer Tianhe-1A is considered as the fastest in the world, and tops the list of the 500 most powerful computer systems worldwide.
The Tianhe-1A, which has 2.57 petaflops, which is 2.57 billion operations per second, is faster than the U.S.-made Jaguar, which has 1.75 petaflops.
The third fastest computer is another Chinese model, the Nebulae, with 1.27 petaflops.
The Tianhe-1A, which means Milky Way in Chinese, is housed at the National Supercomputer Center in Tianjin and was designed by the National University of Defense Technology.
According to specialized sources, this supercomputer will be used for oil exploitation, aviation and aerospace studies, the animation industry and biomedical research. (Prensa Latina)
