Barrios,Savigne to Croatia Intercontinental Cup

Havana, Sep 4. -Cubans Yarelis Barrios (discus) and Yargelis Savigne (triple jump) are training for the September 4-5 Intercontinental Cup in Split, Croatia, as members of Team America.

Barrios is in excellent shape and boasts her best personal mark this year (66.13m), while Savigne has surpassed the 15 meter barrier this season with 15.09m. The triple jump specialist will also try the long jump in Split.

Both are accompanied by Alexis Copello (triple jump); Misleydis Gonzalez (shotput), Yipsi Moreno (hammer) Lesyanis Mayor (high jump), Yainelis Ribeaux (javelin), Jose Alberto Sanchez (3,000 meters steeple chase).

Also on the team list are Jorge Fernandez (discus) and Roberto Janet (hammer) while Dayron Robles (hurdles) and Guillermo Martinez (javelin) will be ones most missed.

The Intercontinental Cup will determine the top region in track and field, and athletes will accumulate points in 40 finals representing four teams (from Africa, America, Asia-Pacific and Europe). (Prensa Latina)
