[:es]US defies UN and announces blockade on Cuba will continue[:]

[:es]Havana, Nov 2.- US Ambassador Nikki Haley delivered a defiant speech against the UN when she took the floor to defend the over 50 years old blockade of her country against Cuba, this Wednesday.

During the debate of the resolution introduced by Cuba on the need to lift the blockade, that has garnered large international support for 26 years, Ambassador Haley said that ¨what the General Assembly is doing today – what it does every year at this time – is political theatre¨

She went into full defying mode and dismissed any power of the United Nations on US policies when she said that ¨This assembly does not have the power to end the U.S. embargo. It is based in U.S. law, which only the United States Congress can change¨

Haley regretted the thaw on Cuba-US relations and the abstention vote cast by the previous Administration on the resolution last year at the General Assembly.

The US Ambassador said her country will vote nay on the resolution despite the fact she acknowledged it will stand isolated on this issue. (ACN)[:]
